Dear RISE Families,
Each Friday the RISE Camp staff puts together a weekly update which includes important reminders for the weeks to come and reflections on the fun we’ve had. We hope you’ll encourage your camper to share some of their experiences with you as well.
Reminders for all campers and parents:
Please use caution and drive slowly through the camp drop-off area, both in the mornings and afternoons. If you need to park your car, please use the lots available, as the drive is only for drop-off and pick-up.
Afternoon pick-up is at 3:00 pm in the grove for all campers. Please do not take your camper before dismissal. Our closing ritual consists of a reflective silence and important announcements, which we need all campers to be present for. In addition, we ask that you speak with your child’s counselor and be sure he/she shakes that counselor’s hand before leaving. This is a Moses Brown tradition that encourages mutual respect and helps build strong inter-personal connections. Rainy day dismissal locations: Upper Camp from Alumni Hall; Lower Camp from Lower School.
Cell phones: Please remind your camper that cell phone usage is not allowed during the camp day. All calls should be made through the RISE office.

Lower Camp Happenings
Hej! Välkommen to RISE. In Lower Camp our weekly program is based on a theme, and this summer we are traveling around the world! We started our journey this week in Sweden. There were culinary specialties to sample, flags to make, words to learn, music to dance to and songs to be sung. The blue room’s socks were knocked off when they learned that the Pippi Longstocking stories came from Sweden; while the yellow room campers enjoyed sharing their own travel stories from Washington DC to Thailand, via North Carolina, St. Lucia, Iran, Mexico, Canada and Spain. Noah taught us the months in Spanish; Wolfie taught us how to say “I’m hungry” in Chinese… there seems to be a lot of adventure ahead!
In addition to their cultural explorations, lower campers enjoyed many artistic activities including beading, weaving and creating pop-up monsters with art teacher, Sarah Hemenway. Kickball players were out in full force as the blue room challenged the red room to a match, which ended in an impressive “RISE tie.” In the green room you could hear proud voices ringing as they composed their own anthem, and yellow room campers buzzed about, adding color from floor to ceiling to show off their camp spirit.
Lower Camp Reminders
Please pack your camper’s swim suit, towel and a plastic bag (for wet clothes) every day, and be sure they are clearly labeled. It is also essential to pack a water bottle each Monday—counselors will clean and refill them each day. Campers should also bring a sizable, healthy lunch to sustain them through the afternoon’s activities.
Upper Camp Happenings
The independence and responsibility that comes with being an upper camper has some of our friends positively bouncing around campus. We are so proud of how they’ve integrated right into the RISE culture and community. New courses such as Lego Mania, Theatre Skills and Lawn Games have been an instant hit among many, while old favorites such as Broadway Bound, Free Swim and Sports Madness are going strong.
If you were passing through camp on Monday you would have seen balloons flying, ping pongs bouncing and bocce balls rolling. Tuesday brought the famous “For-a-Buck” frenzy in the field house, with an exciting game of dodgeball to follow. Peeking in on Wednesday, you might have caught a glimpse of set designers, duct tape masters, sculptors and book makers hard at work. Thursday brought a little rain, but not enough to slow down our Ultimate Frisbee players. And if you looked over the fence on Friday, you would have seen our Organic Gardening course harvesting fresh veggies for Camp Street Ministries.
…and some pretty crazy hats too!
We look forward to keeping you posted on all the happenings at RISE.
Here’s to a long, sunny and memorable summer!
